Per-capita, Alaska leads the nation in senior 65+ growth followed by: NV, AZ, ID Alaska toppled Nevada in 2008 to take the #1 spot From 2010 through 2016, Alaska’s 60 and over population has grown by about 39%. Warning! “Data Rich” material follows over the next couple of slides It tells a very interesting story (I’ll try and not get too nerdy here) Reports quarterly to the Alaska Commission on Aging - An 11 member board appointed by the Governor - 2 from Mat-Su - Rachel Greenberg & Linda Combs, Palmer Worked collaboratively with various senior focused events including the Governor’s Housing Summit Power of Aging in Alaska Conference Anchorage Senior Housing Fair and many others.ģ Senior Housing Office Maintains Statewide Inventory Listings for: Senior Independent Living Senior Assisted Living Homes Applications for Senior/Disabled housing (62+) across Alaska Education on senior issues, demographics, trends, financing options, accessibility modifications and more Links to multiple industry partners offering a wide array of supportive services for seniors Assists communities & developers with AHFC financing tools as well as the myriad of topics impacting seniors in the stateĤ What is “Senior” anyway? Well, it varies a bit…ĪARP card arrives around age 50 Senior Housing is allowed as low as 55 under provisions in the Federal Fair Housing Act (Don’t Forget 55+ Tuesdays at Fred Meyer for 10% off!) Generally, all other senior housing begins at 60+ Except Public Housing and that’s 62+ (or disability of any age) Social Security somewhere between 62 to 67 (and can be higher) So, probably safe to say, depending on the individual, somewhere between age 50 and beyond!
